1/31/2024 0 Comments Gloria chimexShe has a disturbingly high comfort level when it comes to killing or violence, especially where animals are concerned she brutally beheaded a rat with a shovel and left its head to "send a message to the other rats", and then set off for church (" Unplugged"). Jay says that Gloria likes to celebrate even little events he would consider insignificant (" Two Monkeys and a Panda"). A devout Catholic, Gloria is shown to value strong family ties and religion above all else. She is shown to be very proud of her Colombian roots and insists on carrying on several of her Colombian traditions with her new family, and encourages Manny to learn more Spanish (" Queer Eyes, Full Hearts"). She frequently uses her good looks and sexy features to her advantage, which is why she becomes frustrated when she tries to help Claire's campaign for office using the telephone, as people do not see her and respond as she wants (" Election Day"). Gloria also states that all friends of Jay have hit on her, except Shorty (" Fifteen Percent"). She is shown to enjoy the limelight, as she makes effort to be noticeable especially when it comes to her appearance and tends to get jealous when other women get more attention than her, as seen when she fires attractive female babysitters from her house so they don't outrank her (" The Help"). When angered or frustrated, she has a tendency to rant vociferously in Spanish. When two teens egged her house on Halloween, she charged after them screaming "You put egg on my house, I kill what you love!". She also has a considerable temper which is comparable to a volcano: sudden, destructive and with many casualties. She often feels that her race is a problem with people, such as failing to hail a cab which she immediately blames on her being a Latina only for Haley to point out that its just a yellow car. Due to her fiery nature, she often clashes with Claire, another strong female. She is shown to be very expressive in her speech often imitating the sounds of things when she does not know what to call it, and shouting loudly when she is upset. Gloria is often characterized by her loud, outspoken attitude noticeable even from a distance that one neighbor once thought they own a parrot (" Unplugged") her voice is known for driving the next-door neighbor's dog mad, setting off car alarms and scaring several drivers into pulling over because it reached a pitch akin to a police or ambulance siren. Gloria later comes over to thank Jay thinking it was for her (" Fulgencio"). Jay (who could only see Sonia as Gloria's back is turned to him) sent a pie over to Sonia but she missed it as she went to the bathroom. Gloria met her husband Jay at a diner while she was with Sonia. Jay said he used to sweat a lot while visiting her apartment, having to climb three flights of stairs. She was also formerly a spokesmodel, mover and a philosophy professor. She used to be a cab driver and a hairdresser at a salon near her apartment in the slums. ![]() It is also in Florida where she gave birth to Manny in 1999. Until the events in " Goodnight Gracie", she was wanted in Florida for subletting an apartment which her roommate turned into a brothel after she left. She also stayed in Texas and Florida for some time, both of which she became wanted by the police. Jay mentions that she had been deported twice (" Open House of Horrors"). This would later cause friction between the two (" Fulgencio"). ![]() She used the letter and ends up leaving instead of her sister. ![]() When she was younger, she received a letter addressed to her sister Sonia with an opportunity to leave for the US. Gloria was also very jealous of Sonia, who their father got on better with, and it appears that Gloria resented Sonia for this (“ A Tale of Three Cities”). Gloria also frequently mentions that she used to join (and win) beauty pageants where she showcased her ventriloquist dummy Uncle Grumpy, later seen to be strikingly similar to Jay (" Yard Sale"). Crazily traditional, Gloria firmly believes in superstitions and that her family is cursed because her great-great-grandfather made a deal with the devil, causing many of her relatives to end up in jail (" Larry's Wife"). She states that she had her own machete when she was young (" Fizbo"), and has considerable comfort in murdering animals due to relatives who are butchers (" Unplugged"). ![]() Living in a poor village, she is evidently used to doing manual labor and frequently implies violence as a solution to problems. She has many siblings, including her younger sister Sonia and two unnamed brothers. Gloria was born in Colombia to Pilar and Fulgencio Ramirez. 1/31/2024 0 Comments Sdltrs manualWhile I have also written some z80 programs using period correct tools, ie. I can use my nice modern, full-screen editor on my MacBook Pro’s hi-resolution screen, I can assemble the entire program in less than a second, and I can test on emulators immediately with nice built in debugging utilities. In regards to the task of writing a z80 game from scratch, I will say that modern cross assemblers and easy access to resources on the Internet make it much, much easier to write a z80 program today than compared to 40 years ago. ![]() Yes, I agree completely, the paddle rebound mechanics are primitive so that is on my list for improvements. Peter Cetinski Post author March 6, 2018ĭaniel, thank you so much for the detailed feedback. It reminded me of how much fun games used to be back before everything was about intense graphics and killing everyone in sight. I looked at your LinkedIn profile and you and I seem to have similar programming experience (I spend my days in Unix writing C++, Java, and PHP code along with HTML and JavaScript) and I’d be pretty lost going back to writing much of anything in Z-80!Īgain, this was a lot of fun to play. To write an entire program in assembly these days is almost unheard of, and I’m impressed that you took the time to do this now. ![]() Back around 1981 I taught myself to program the Z-80 (using what I thought was a pretty great book that Radio Shack put out, “TRS‑80 Assembly Language Programming”) and wrote a fair amount of code, but it was always short routines embedded in my Basic programs to speed up screen drawing or to create sound effects – things that were simply way too slow to do in Basic. I’m also incredibly impressed that this was written from scratch in assembly. That said, I ran this under emulation (I kick myself frequently for donating my old Model 1 to charity 25 years ago) so that refresh-effect may not even be a thing under emulation (sdltrs for Mac). This may be a side-effect of screen refresh, or it may also be by design, but it appears the next location of the ball is drawn before the old one is replaced which gives it a nice effect. I also like how the ball itself is drawn. It’s even a nice side-effect (whether by design or by accident) that if you switch directions while the paddle is accelerated, even the reverse motion is accelerated. With that out of the way, I have to say that I love how the paddle accelerates a bit when you hold the arrow down. That last brick on the first level took quite literally more than twice as long to hit as the previous 64 bricks put together and I nearly gave up. There were definitely times where that was frustratingly fun! I’d move the paddle in anticipation of where the ball was going, only to find out I was fooled! But it also made for a lot of not-so-fun frustration. ![]() Rather than most breakout-style games where you can control the direction (and speed of it) by where the ball hits the paddle, it appears the ball keeps going in the same direction as it was going about 90% of the time the other 10% of the time it changes direction and speed at random. What a fun blast from the past, thanks! As you said this is a work in progress, I do have a few comments!įirst of all, the one thing I admit that drove me a little bit crazy is the randomness of the ball direction. However, at this time, I am just too busy to go through the effort of creating the manual and tapes at the level of quality that I would require. You smack the bottle, and hard: this way, the shear rate increases (think about the relative velocity between the ketchup and the internal walls of the bottle) and viscosity decreases.Įxamples of shear-thickening fluids are quicksand and the famous "oobleck" (starch+water): the faster you apply the stress, the higher the viscosity. For others, called shear-thinning, viscosity decreses with stress.įor example, ketchup is a shear-thinning liquid: you may have noticed if you've ever had difficulties in making it come out of the bottle. Examples of Newtonian fluids are water, gasoline and alcohol.įor non-Newtonian fluids, it is important to consider how fast we apply the stress: there are some fluids, called shear-thickening, for which viscosity increases with stres. the response to the stress, will be constant. the force exerted on the surface will be large and it will be difficult to make the liquid flow (for example inside a pipe).įor Newtonian fluids, it doesn't matter how fast you apply the stress: the viscosity, i.e. The viscosity $\eta$ is a measure of the resistence of the fluid to an applied shear stress: if a fluid has a large viscosity, even a small shear rate will generate a large shear stress, i.e. Ok, nice equations: but what does this all mean? $$\tau = \eta \left(T, \frac v h \right) \cdot \left( \frac v h \right)$$ ![]() So that for the sliding plates case we have $$\tau = \eta(T, \dot \gamma) \cdot \dot \gamma$$ (because since $h$ is small we can make the approximation that the velocity of the fluid is approximatively constant and equal to the velocity of the plate).įor a non-newtonian fluid, the viscosity $\eta$ also depends on the shear rate: If we a "sandwich" of two plates containing a fluid layer of small thickness $h$, with one plate fixed an another moving with velocity $v$, we will simply have Where $v_i$ are the components of the velocity field of the fluid. broken covalent bonds in a polymer chain) and will be unable to return to its undeformed state when the load is removed. Note: Only an idealisation, as in reality no material can be indefinitely compressed or stretched, instead there are thresholds of deformation beyond which the material will undergo permanent change (e.g. These are materials that exhibit linear elasticity, and deform proportionally to the applied load. Hookean solid: $\sigma = \gamma \epsilon$ ($\sigma$ denotes the applied stress, $\gamma$ the elastic modulus and $\epsilon$ the deformation). Let's wrap up by reminding the definitions: Good example of such materials are honey and silly putty. For example a hysteresis stress-strain curve can often be observed, hinting at the fact that unlike Hookean solids, viscoelastic materials do dissipate energy when under load. Depending on the rate with which we are shearing the material its behaviour varies between that of the elastic solids and viscous fluids. Now you may have also heard of viscoelastic materials, which as the name suggests, exhibit both viscous (they can flow) and elastic (they can also act stiff) characteristics when subject to a shear stress. how stiff they are, how much do they elongate, whereas for fluids, when one applies a shearing stress, their response is to move (as they have no stiffness) which is determined by their viscosity. ![]() Now in the case of solids and their elastic behaviour, we apply a stress to them and study their mechanical response, e.g. This in turn means that we can define a characteristic constant of stiffness for the elastic behaviour of the solid and similarly a characteristic dynamic viscosity for the fluid. For example both fall into a first-order linear approximation response theory and therein lies the intuition: The response of the solid (deformation-strain) or the fluid (rate of change of deformation over time-strain rate) to the applied stress differs only by a proportionality constant, meaning the system (and more precisely its behaviour to external influences) will not undergo permanent changes (no non-linear effects), no matter how quickly, weakly or strongly it is being sheared. Since you're looking for an intuitive picture, it may help to draw analogy between Hookean solids (solids whose elastic behaviour is well captured by the Hooke's law) and Newtonian fluids. 1/31/2024 0 Comments Jstock import issue
![]() I took my Blues Junior and my Lunchbox, a tele and a les paul. Set up with the Lunchbox and telecaster with a line out to the PA. Just a delay pedal on the floor for effects. Once we started I didn't really get a chance to change anything so I just stuck to that arrangement all night. Played stuff from Yakety Axe and Folsom Prison Blues to Smoke on the Water (we figured it's time to bring that back into band sets.). Also a load of surf instrumentals including Miserlou. Guitarists in the audience said it sounded awesome, but to me it didn't feel or sound as good as my Blues Junior. It also didn't feel as nice as it did in quieter situations. ![]() I think it was because I was mainly still hearing myself from the 6.5" speaker.which nearly coped on its own, btw. It was way better than other SS amps I've used, but the overdrive still had a bit of an edge to it when I dug in. I wish I'd have brought the extension speaker to try now. I turned the vol and gain all the way up and used my vol knob to clean it up. One guy actually told me it sounded better than my Hayseed 30. I'm not buying that for the sole reason that I switched to Keystone pickups in my Tele and they have not heard the Hayseed since I changed them out. Makes any amp sound more country to my ear. Holy Grail reverb - I think I might switch to the Boss fender reverb soon. Wampler ego compressor - This amp loves a little compression. I don't use it with my Hayseed but it really made this amp come alive. I am going to be using this lil guy as my backup amp and for small clubs where a 2x12 amp is just to large. I will be honest, at first I was kind of meh about the tone of the amp. However at full vol with my pedals and in a band setting it sounded great. ![]() Also, it sounds best sitting on the floor. The bottom falls right out of it if you sit it up off the ground. I haven't gotten my hands on the latest Club. I've had one of the first run of the production line which had a couple issues (which were promptly resolved) and this one. Can't speak for the latest but if it has a high end response closer to the Lunchbox yet still retaining the richer low end, it'll be killer. Really like to try one, however honestly I just really, really dig the tiny nature of the Lunchbox. Its the absolute perfect amp for small coffee house/gallery gigs.ĭead is a funny word to describe an amp, don't think I'd go that far. The Club reminds me of a "problem" with many rigs which excel at high volumes have.that is they sound their best at higher volumes. I didn't try the Lunchbox with the ZT extension cabinet (and not sure I even want to get one), but did try it with a external cab with a 12" (though it was 16 ohm). Honestly, its sized well to work as a head with a larger cabinet.I brought the Lunchbox w/ the cab to a rehearsal and still made only a single trip from the car. I used it without the cab as well in that rehearsal and as others have noted, its got to be on the ground to sound right but it hung decently.Lead 9 is a downloadable collection of tabs for lead guitar. (IIRC wmp is not installable in a 64-bit prefix so that playback method probably has no workaround) After installing the codecs MCI just waits a while and then skips the movie, meanwhile DirectShow still doesn't work. Before installing the codes MCI was showing the question mark dialog. I thought it might be a codec issue so I tried allcodecs via winetricks. Both the premise and Gevinson’s spooky performance owe a little to Jonathan Glazer’s great 2013 film Under the Skin, but the episode finds different ways to approach the question of what it means to be human. When a being from an alien dimension shows up and starts to take on their daughter’s appearance and personality, however, they have to decide whether they should treat it as friend or foe. There’s an even deeper sense of loss at the center of “A Human Face,” in which Christopher Meloni and Jenna Elfman play parents still mourning the death of their daughter (Tavi Gevinson) as they prepare to move out of the house they shared with her. Written and directed by Osgood Perkins ( The Blackcoat’s Daughter), the first creator to play both roles for this incarnation of The Twilight Zone, it’s a dark satire with mournful undertones, thanks largely to a deft performance from Gretchen Mol as a well-to-do housewife who comes to realize that something’s not quite right in her world.įor Those Who Want to Have Their Hearts Tugged by an Alien Visitation: Where the first-season finale, “Blurryman,” broke the fourth wall by bringing the spirit of Rod Serling into the world of the series, “You Might Also Like” nods to the series’ past with an appearance by the Kanamits, the only seemingly altruistic aliens from the original series’ “To Serve Man.” Here they’ve found a different way to infiltrate human culture, though to reveal how - beyond mentioning the episode segues between real ads and fakes ones - would spoil the surprise. Ostensibly the second-season finale - though that term doesn’t really have meaning for an anthology series that debuts all its episodes simultaneously - this episode both revives one of the original series’ most famous aliens and pushes at the barriers of what a Twilight Zone episode can be. ![]() There’s something for everyone and, with that in mind, here’s a guide to what sort of episodes season two offers, and who might enjoy them most. And because the streaming service made all the episodes available at once, viewers have the freedom to hop around for the sort of Twilight Zone episodes they like best. But, as before, the season works more often than it doesn’t (and even improves on its predecessor’s hit-to-miss ratio). Some spend too long stretching an obvious twist to the breaking point, others … well, others feature a killer super-octopus. As with the first season, not all of them work. The second season continues to run with that idea via ten episodes that offer something for everyone. Sure, episodes need elements of science fiction or the supernatural and (most of the time) some kind of ironic twist - be it horrifying or gentle - but The Twilight Zone works better as a guiding spirit than a set of rules. Since debuting last year, the CBS All Access revival of The Twilight Zone has smartly recognized that, like the classic show that inspired it, the series can play host to all sorts of stories. In addition to serving as The Twilight Zone’s wry host, Jordan Peele pens one of this season’s more memorable episodes.
